Project Description and Impact

Poket (www.poket.ca) is a customizable field data collection and surveying software for the international development sector. The solution empowers users in the field to self-report and crowdsource data in exchange for custom rewards and incentives. Poket enables self-reported and community-based data collection with real-time feedback loops, dashboards, maps and resources - even in offline settings. Poket’s tools can be used on any smartphone and for many different sectors. Some of these include climate-smart agriculture, global health, financial Inclusion, gender empowerment, disaster relief and more. Poket is based in Toronto, Canada, supported by MIT via their SOLVE Initiative, the University of Toronto, Toronto Metropolitan University, are recipients of the Top 30 Under 30 Developer Award for Canada, and presented at the United Nations General Assembly + World Bank for their technology's innovative approach to research and data collection.

Over the past while, we have had a pro-bono legal partner assist us with our contract-related work under their social enterprise pro-bono program. Unfortunately, due to some staffing shortages, they've expressed challenges in being able to continue supporting us. So, we are hopeful for your support in filling this major gap on our team!

Learning Opportunity

We are often going through the procurement teams of large international NGOs or researchers, who are often governed by 3rd party donors / foundations. This can be a unique opportunity for a law firm to sink their teeth into impact-driven work in the international development sector. It may also be an interesting experience working with procurement teams for large publicly-funded instiutions or foundation-funded NGOs. It can also provide the firm with interesting context into the legal + business challenges of software-based organizations / firms operating in the data collection industry.
