Description and Impact

In order to reduce dependency and move towards sustainability, our organization supports activities which generate income for our partners, reduce their dependency on external funding and, in some cases, provide training and job placement opportunities for at-risk young people. The Social Enterprise/ income generation programme is built around a participatory approach. The main strategy is to provide technical support directly or indirectly through our volunteers, the PM and/or training institutions. We also raise funds to cover the start-up costs of social enterprise projects/ income generating activities. The aim of the programme, however, is to design a self-sustainable business model, so that the business will one day no longer require financial assistance from our organization or other sources.

The main objective of the programme in the short term is to make sure the enterprise generates enough income to cover a considerable part of the children's homes running costs. The ultimate aim of the programme, however, is to design a self-sustainable business model, so that the business no longer requires financial assistance from us or other sources.

In addition to economic results, the programme will also be successful if it can provide young beneficiaries with vocational training and job opportunities.

Ask a question about this project

Hi I am interested in this project. Would you consider non-Spanish speakers? Also, when would the project ideally start?
Craig, May 23rd, 2018
Hi Craig. We are very happy to hear that you are interested in our project. For the position of a social enterprise coordinator, you will need at least an intermediate level of Spanish. The projects that we work with are Spanish speaking only and you would be communicating with them regularly. We have ongoing projects and programmes that we work with throughout the year and thus we recruit people throughout the year. I hope this was helpful and I would be more than happy to answer any more questions you may have about the project or the positions that we have!

Hello, I am very interested in this opportunity and have two questions I would appreciate your help with: 1. When are you looking for volunteers to start? 2. Do you provide any stipend or accommodation? If not, please could you give a rough guide of monthly living costs in Cusco. Thanks in advance! Leonie
Leonie, Nov 30th, 2016
Hi Leonie, thank you for your interest in volunteering with LAFF. We are looking for volunteers to start whenever, we need volunteers all year round, so whenever you can start is good for us. We don't provide a stipend or accommodation, however monthly rent in Cusco is about 600 soles ($200) or less. Many volunteers have also stayed at homestays or helped volunteer at hostels to stay for free. Thanks, Andreas
