Social Impact Project for Expert to Help us Redesign and Develop our Platform
How This Works
In the MovingWorlds Institute Global Fellowship, you will learn how to advance your for-good career while getting hands on experience on projects like this one.
Project Description and Impact
The Eyes of Earth platform will be the global outreach and awareness-building part of People’s Planet Project’s mission and work. It complements the GeoStory Camp project, where Indigenous communities learn filmmaking and geospatial mapping skills, by providing an accessible integrated story-map visual platform.
In its previous iteration, it was named ‘Tribal Stories’, and can still be accessed here: https://www.peoplesplanetproject.org/tribal-stories. We aim to completely rework and upscale this platform to fit People’s Planet Project’s current phase. Because our recent focus has been on implementing three GeoStory Camps (in Brazil, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea), redevelopment plans for Eyes of Earth have been postponed. The People’s Planet Project team has created a platform proposal and visual guide with how we imagine this platform to look and function, but need support to refine and implement this.
Learning Opportunity
By participating in the MovingWorlds Institute, you will first learn social impact frameworks and human-centered design before putting your existing skills and new knowledge to action. In addition, this organization will expose you to new things, like:
People’s Planet Project hopes that anyone working with us walks away with a deeper understanding and respect for the Indigenous communities globally that fight on the frontline against deforestation and climate change. Through this project, they will help empower Indigenous communities to create their own stories and maps and report environmental destruction and injustice.
The consultant will learn about how we build partnerships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous actors and how we connect various facets of our work - from education to collective impact support to legal action to awareness-building.
