Description and Impact
We are developing a mini server that will allow the implementation of a localized network that is closer to the users where people can access the high capacity router via WIFI without the need to have internet on their phone, and they can consume video content, video games, do surveys, access to digital information and much more in areas where telecom network is poor or nonexistent.
We have selected the hardware and OS to use, but we need someone to help on some specific software architecture challenges, like syncing and storage, that can work well in low connectivity areas. This is an advisory role, to review and debate what we have in mind so we can make the right decision before starting development.
If you are interested, please email email@example.com with a CV (or link to LinkedIn) with a short summary of your bio and explaining your interest. Do not follow the application button below.
The project will be a success when we establish the final architectural design of the software within the hardware and the different module to be used. Then we can start software development. We are right now on the design stage and we are missing some gaps because we do not have the expertise we need to finalize the design.
Our ideal candidates will be one or two senior engineer(s) with:
- 5 to 10 years experience in embedded system Linux (OpenWrt a plus)
- Knowledge in decentralizing networking system
- Experience in system architecture in embedded system,
- A good understanding of communication system between cloud and router
- Have worked on raspberry Pi
- Have some good knowledge of decentralized storage system, like storj.io technology
- Mesh networking like Libelium communication system
This is an advisory role to give us some ideas and help guide us in the right direction. There is no programming involved, just participate in a brainstorming session once a twice a week with the tech team and help us achieve our goals.
We Provide These Local Benefits
- Learning Opportunity
The professional will learn a lot about the digital divide that exists in Africa and why the internet is still problematic on the continent.
