Social Impact Project for Digital Marketing Experteer to Launch Our First Upcycled Product
How This Works
As part of the TRANSFORM Support Hub, you will learn how to advance your career while getting hands on experience on projects like this one.
Project Description and Impact
Our goal at Ashaya is to increase the value of waste and use that value to empower waste-pickers permanently out of poverty here in Pune and India. And in that, we are truly an impact-first organization. But we are not naive about how to make an impact - we believe in good economics and in creating financially sustainable business models that can maximize impact over the long run.
For the last year, we have been doing deep R&D on upcycling metalized multi-layered plastic packaging (MLP) - it's honestly the worst type of plastic waste because it is almost impossible to recycle it economically. It contains up to 6 different types of materials fused together including plastic, metal and paper. And because it cannot be recycled, it ends up in landfills, in our oceans or on the streets - almost none of it is recycled.
But we've managed to upcycle it into high-quality materials in a somewhat economical fashion (our patent application just passed the novelty search). The last step in the puzzle is to convert these upcycled materials into final consumer products so we can build a financially viable business model.
That's where you will come in.
We know what we want to produce, and we have the in-house tech to get it done, but we need to launch it into the world of conscious consumerism. And we want to be cutting edge about it.
So, we are looking for a marketing expert who can help us create a new brand that catapults our product into the e-market. An expert who cares deeply not only about their work, but also about making a genuine difference.
Learning Opportunity
We are chemo-mechanically converting the worst type of plastic waste into high-quality final products by directly impacting waste-pickers. That involves chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, product design and engineering, manufacturing using 3D-printers and customized injection molds, blockchain technology to track the path of waste, marketing, finance, strategy, impact measurement and so much more. We believe what we are doing is highly complex and highly impactful, from the ground up. So, in a nutshell, the learning opportunities here are exponential.
