Project Details

Description and Impact

We are a non-profit arts organization with 3 areas of interest: Artistic Practice, Pedagogy and Research. The current beneficiaries of our programs are the local artistic community, the general public and the international artistic community. Our programs include residencies for artists, curators and academics, a pedagogical program in which we address social and political issues with groups of children, youth and adults and we are beginning a research/publication program.

In 2012 we wrote a strategic plan with certain goals; some of which have been achieved.

We need immediate help in analyzing our strengths and weaknesses and priorities, our current thoughts about our programs and especially our future economic sustainability and in creating a viable strategy for the future.

The goal for this project is to have a viable strategic economic plan at the end of the experteer's visit.

The plan should minimally consider our history, our interests, our perceptions about the needs in the community, our current projects, and our current and projected economic needs.

We Provide These Local Benefits

Benefits Overview

  • Accommodations
  • Learning Opportunity
  • Good For Groups

Our facility/house is centrally located, in Prado Centro, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Medellín.

The house has 3 bedrooms in one of which we can house the experteer. These are the same rooms that we use to house the artists, curators and academics who participate in our artist residency program. One smaller room has a private bath, the other two larger rooms have a shared bathroom. If the "residency" takes place in the first half of the year, the experteer can specify their preference.

There is wireless internet service and local telephone service.

The experteer will have use of the shared kitchen.

The house is near the metro, bus service and the local taxi service is relatively cheap.

Learning Opportunity

The Experteer will learn a lot about the realities and unique aspects of Medellíin and Colombia from an historical, social, political point of view.

She/he will learn the realities of an autonomous alternative contemporary arts organization in Latin America, which will serve as a point of reference in the future.

Additional Benefits

Normally, we provide coffee, cereal, milk and sugar for a basic breakfast. The other meals can be prepared in the kitchen.

There is a small supermarket nearby and a larger one is easily accessed via the metro or bus or taxi. An open public market is also fairly close by which is also accessible via bus or taxi.

We will analyze our budget to see if we can help with some of the local living expenses. This will also depend on the time of the visit.

We can provide orientation in the city,  city tours, tours of the surrounding towns, and perhaps even further away from the city.

Introduction to local figures who might be of interest to the Experteer.

Some shared social time can also anticipated beyond the tours.

This project accepts applications for virtual experteers.

Ask a question about this project

Dear Tony, I see this opportunity has been matched but I reach out to you anyway as I would be very much interested in potentially being part of the activities you are driving as they are combining topics i am very much interested in: strategy, art, sustainability. I also do speak Spanish at advanced level. Anyway my availability would be not earlier than several months from now, so maybe I would be able to replace the temporary experteer you might be hosting now. If i would join for 3 weeks - i could do October, if i would join for 3 months, i could do next February. So, do you foresee future projects that would accommodate a new experteer? Looking forward to your feedback! Agnes
Agnes, Jun 5th, 2017
Dear Agnes, Thank you for your interest in coming to Casa Tres Patios and Colombia. We plan on continuing with the experteer that we are working with until we complete our strategic plan. We are planning on completing the plan in August. After that, if we mutually think it is necessary, we may continue our relationship with the present experteer. Nevertheless, we might be interested in hosting you as well later in the year. I see from your resume that you have experience as a data analyst and pricing consultant, but I am not sure how those skills could be valuable to us. I would like to know specifically how you think you could help us? As a non-profit organization one of our constant needs is fundraising. While I am not certain, I assume that part of the strategic plan will involve a fundraising plan that will enable us to meet the goals of the plan, so in the future, as our next step, I imagine that we will consider looking for a professional with international fundraising experience.

What is the expected length of time and needed level of Spanish fluency?
Melanie, Feb 4th, 2017
Dear Melanie: Thank you for your interest in our project. We think that in order to understand our organization and to work with our staff and stakeholders it would be necessary to be in Casa Tres Patios between 3 weeks and 3.5 months. Since I and some of our key staff members speak English a basic or intermediate level is the minimum level required. If the level is basic, meetings with people and organizations outside of C3P would probably require the help of one of our staff.
