Social Impact Project for Train Rural Women to Become Entrepreneurs

How This Works

As part of the TRANSFORM Support Hub, you will learn how to advance your career while getting hands on experience on projects like this one.

Project Description and Impact

In rural communities like Lwengo, women spend much their time collecting firewood, fetching water, cooking, caregiving for the young and sick, and small-scale farming. We work with women to improve their livelihoods through skills development such managing small group enterprises or handicrafts. The women currently work in small groups to make handbags, tablemats, beads, or bracelets to earn additional income. Our goal is to support these women so that they are able to scale up their small businesses, become self-reliant and improve their livelihoods through selling these handmade products.

We are looking for an Experteer who can help the women improve their business skills and be able to not only sustain their smallscale enterprises but to also grow their business and reach international markets.

You will be working with the women on a daily basis to improve their products through better branding, improving quality to suit international standards and also help them find sustainable ways to reduce their costs in producing these products. You will also work with the women to establish marketing strategies for their products both locally and internationally.

Learning Opportunity

Experteers will have the opportunity to learn the dynamics of marketing in developing countries. They will also learn from the small and medium enterprises in Uganda that we wish to work us.

Accommodation

You will be staying with one of our host families in the community where you will be working. Our host families are wisely selected and they also speak English. The distance to the community groups you will be working can be accessed through walking, or by a motorbike.

You will have a single room with a window view, bed and beddings, a mosquito net and a power source. You will however share the dinning, bathroom and toilet with the host family.
