Project Description and Impact
Blue Dot is the first promotional products (swag, branded merch) company 100% committed to sustainability. According to a Blue Dot survey in 2021, 76.5% of swag ends up being given away, or even worse, thrown away. Our mission is to eliminate the enormous waste in the industry and give things that people love, will want to keep, but that are also made sustainably and with high standards of ethics. We offer products that are vetted for social and environmental impact, empowering companies to align their values with their purchasing dollars and share this impact, creating a deeper and more memorable brand connection with their audiences.
How we make an impact: Through our supplier vetting process, we look holistically at our suppliers’ environmental practices and the input materials their social impact, their 3rd party certifications, as well as their supplier chain practices. We are B-Corp pending, a 1% for the planet company, and WBENC (women-owned) certified.
Our challenges and why we need support: We have had success to date selling into HR departments for their employee gifts, but have struggled on getting into larger company’s procurement radars. A few examples of challenges:
- Explaining/selling our value proposition when it comes to impact - sales deck doesn’t best explain this, and we’re not sure the best way to convey/ how much our clients care.
- Social Procurement: Not having the resources to respond to large RFPs.
- Pitching to marketing teams - navigating internal referrals and how to pitch the sustainability stories to the marketing and comms teams.
Our needs: We are looking for support with sales strategy and business development. We need to refine our value proposition, define our ideal customers, and have an amazing sales deck that will wow our prospects. We would like to develop our business development strategy; this may include partnership & marketing, strategy and approaches, to targeting our ideal customer.
By participating in the MovingWorlds Institute, you will first learn social impact frameworks and human-centered design before putting your existing skills and new knowledge to action.
