Project Description and Impact
DemiLaut is working on a social innovation approach that drives the public and coastal community together to develop improved solutions that helps traditional fishers to contribute in sustainable fishing practices, while improving their livelihood - being resilient to climate change and also to explore the possibilities of harvesting data for to monitor the impact of climate change on the ocean and coastal areas.
In our recent work, we have developed an online training module for university students and public youths to learn about social entrepreneurship, data science, innovation & technology, marine science, and the integration of product development for them to up skill themselves, and to use as an understanding to help bridge the traditional fishers and coastal communities to digitise their fishing operations such as reporting daily catches, registering fishers ID, reports of demographic data, and more possibilities.
We aim to scale up this project nationwide, sharing STEM values to students and the opportunity to develop experience through the program, while impacting beneficiaries towards changing their methods of operation towards sustainable fishing practices and also to help improve their wellbeing. Some avenues we are looking at includes drop shipping of fish to new market, improve quality assurance of fisher product, enable byproducts of fish waste, diversifying fish products and many more.
By participating in the MovingWorlds Institute, you will first learn social impact frameworks and human-centered design before putting your existing skills and new knowledge to action. In addition, this organization will expose you to new things, like:
Experts could learn how Malaysia or South East Asian demographics in Agriculture and Data Science. They could also learn about lean low-tech developments and approaches, and how as a lean startup we make things move.
They could also learn about how we could create a data infrastructure from the community's input and explore opportunities together to create currency out of data collected from these efforts.
Any food they like!
We could bring volunteers to represent DemiLaut in accelerators, trainings and also onboard members to develop their own projects.
This project accepts virtual experteers.
