Impact Story

Awamaki empowers women's artisan cooperatives, providing skills-building workshops and provide access to the market through our Fair Trade Store in town, thereby allowing women to earn a reliable income. Awamaki’s Sustainable Tourism Program works to connect women, families and the rural poor with the economic opportunities that tourism brings.

Our impact model consists of three phrases that each cooperative must move through before becoming an independent business and graduating! So far four cooperatives are on level two and two on level one. Our most advanced cooperative, Rumira is now knitting for its first customer independent of Awamaki with the hope of graduating in 2016!
