Social Impact Project for Fundraising Expert to Support Solar Energy Social Enterprise in Uganda

How This Works

As part of the TRANSFORM Support Hub, you will learn how to advance your career while getting hands on experience on projects like this one.

Project Description and Impact

Many communities in Lwengo district and beyond still lack access to electricity, and so rely on unhealthy means of burning kerosene to provide light for their families. These families use 'tadooba," a locally made kerosene lamp and lanterns as an alternative solution to lighting their homes. Unfortunately, these lamps and lanterns are very dangerous to their health since they lead to dangerous respiratory diseases, accidents like burning of children or the entire house, and they are costly since they require a daily expense between $0.19 - 0.27 USD per night.

With support from a past Experteer, we have established a social enterprise reaching off-grid communities with clean and sustainable solar energy available using a Pay-as-you-go system. Over 28 families and a community school (368 people) have benefited from this project and can now get clean and brighter light from our solar products.

We are looking for a Fundaraising Experteer to support our team in Resource mobilization and Fundraising to scale up the solar project so we can reach even more families.

Learning Opportunity

The Experteer will learn about the diverse operations in the supply-chain of a startup social enterprise in a rural setting of a developing nation.
