Impact Story

Our founder, Chibugo Okafor, started this social enterprise with the social objective of utilising the production from 400 hives, processing of an average of 5.7 tonnes (5700 kg) annually and packaging of high-quality organic African honey to empower and provide job opportunities to (to date over 1200) female & youth beekeepers to become sustainable income generators.

70% of farmers are female but women operate on a smaller scale to their male counterparts, with resultant lower yields than those operated by men. This is largely contributed to the fact that women have access to few inputs and resources such as fertilisers or credit. Given equal access to resources as men, national productivity in developing countries by 2.5-4%; lifting as many as 100-150 million people out of chronic hunger.

Thus, alongside associated initiatives, the business provides technical training sessions, agricultural inputs and subsequently job opportunities for over 2000 youth and women and then access to market is created by Kendake Honey off-taking their harvested products at economically fair prices. The harvested honey is then sold on to businesses and now customers for their consumption. The importance here is that there is a sustainable income flow into their respective homes.
