Social Impact Project for School Farms for Climate, Education, Nutrition and Skills
Project Description and Impact
Background of the Project
School Farms is a licensed nonprofit organization in Ghana that transforms rural education through climate-smart agriculture, nutrition, and skills development. Since 2014, we have worked with schools to establish productive farm spaces and learning hubs that equip students with practical agricultural skills, food literacy, and entrepreneurial opportunities. Guided by our Farms for Climate, Education, Nutrition and Skills (CENS+) model, we have successfully implemented initiatives such as school gardens, greenhouses, Nourish Labs, and student-led farm markets. These efforts have directly improved students’ nutrition literacy, built resilience, and inspired a new generation of youth to see agriculture as a viable career pathway.
Why We Need Support
As we prepare to scale our impact nationally, one of our greatest challenges is securing sustained, multi-year funding to expand operations, strengthen monitoring and evaluation systems, and replicate our model across Ghana. While we have demonstrated success with grants such as the Roddenberry Foundation’s +1 Global Fund and partnerships with Interplast Ghana, we now need expert guidance to develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy, craft competitive proposals, and build strong donor relationships. Support from an experienced consultant will enable us to position School Farms for long-term sustainability and deepen our contribution to food security, education, and climate action.
Learning Opportunity
By working with School Farms, the experteer will gain first-hand insight into how climate-smart agriculture, education, and nutrition intersect to drive community development in rural Ghana. They will experience how innovative models like our CENS+ approach transform schools into hubs of learning, resilience, and entrepreneurship. The experteer will also engage directly with a grassroots organization navigating real-world challenges in fundraising, scaling impact, and building partnerships, offering a unique opportunity to apply their expertise in a context that blends education, food systems, and climate action.
