Project Description and Impact
USA nonprofit Ecocity Builders, in partnership with Tribhuvan University Institute of Engineering and GD Labs in Kathmandu, Nepal, is looking for skilled and passionate experts to volunteer for an innovative emissions reduction project and local business innovation. Our Oil Drum Scrubber (ODS) project offers a revolutionary, low-cost, and locally manufacturable solution to reduce particulates and SO2 emissions from brick kilns and other polluting industries.
This is an opportunity to contribute to a paradigm-shifting initiative aimed at cleaner air, improved health, and greater sustainability for communities in Nepal. Our ODS system will also integrate with Ecocity Builders’ "Carbon Good" platform, a pioneering effort to capture carbon dioxide emissions and transform them into biochar for soil health and carbon sequestration. (This system, under it's previous name, HCCAS (hydroponic carbon capture, anywhere, simply), was previously a finalist for MIT SOLVE.)
We have the technology demonstrated and tested in the lab and are now preparing for a field test at one of the brick factories in Lalitpur, Nepal (next to Kathmandu). We have the support of the Mayor and the Nepal Brick Federation. What we're lacking is a clear business model/plan so we can clearly explain how the integrated system (ODS and CarbonGood) can make money for the brick factories, even in the off season. By volunteering with us, you will help us complete the business case and help us present it to the local stakeholders and international funders.
