Social Impact Project for Finance Experteer to Support an Impact Fund for Energy Efficiency

How This Works

As part of the TRANSFORM Support Hub, you will learn how to advance your career while getting hands on experience on projects like this one.

Project Description and Impact

My company design-builds affordable and energy efficient modular housing, commercial and community real estate. We also redevelop blighted industrial land  in underserved and under-resourced communities micro-factories to hire local tradesmen and tradeswomen to support our work and create jobs. A huge impediment to the global housing crisis is bureaucratic red with respect to land acquisition, harsh building codes and long lead times to build enough supply of affordable housing. What also makes our work challenging as a social enterprise is attracting real estate developers with enough capital to acquire property for the sole purposes of building quality affordable housing, and for these developers to pay for our construction services. As our global urban communities grow land prices increase, which make it difficult for small local developers to acquire property and redevelop accordingly.

With this project, we will develop a strategic plan to successfully implement our first impact fund. This fund will provide investment needed for us to build more modular affordable housing, acquire property to develop our own energy-efficient affordable multi-family housing, hire more workers, and provide a vehicle for private investors to financially support the global housing crisis. This fund will speed up our ability to increase revenue while building and shipping affordable housing around the world. We could reach more people in need of adequate housing, increase job and training opportunities, add more energy efficient real estate to the market while lessening the negative impacts of displacement. We would not have to rely on difficult underwriting requirements from conventional lending institutions, nor have to question the motives of said financial institutions that market themselves as leaders in housing development finance.
