Social Impact Project for Social Media Experteer to Support Remote Solar Electric Training Company
Project Description and Impact
The Remote Energy co-founders have more than 50 years combined experience developing curriculum and teaching how to design, install and maintain small solar electric systems for people who live beyond the power lines in remote communities worldwide. Our focus is training the future trainers. Historically, we have taught hands-on and in person, including classes just for women. With COVID-19 we pivoted to 100% online classes.
Our monthly online classes require 25 full paid students. After that revenue is reached, there could be an additional 25-75 students who can attend the classes for free or with a reduced rate. Many of our students do not browse the internet and use Facebook and WhatsApp as their main sources of communication.
To contact potential partners at vocational training schools, LinkedIn might be a better avenue. Right now, target communities are English speakers in East and West Africa with most students coming from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Senegal. Soon the curriculum will be translated into French and Swahili.
By participating in the MovingWorlds Institute, you will first learn social impact frameworks and human-centered design before putting your existing skills and new knowledge to action. In addition, this organization will expose you to new things, like:
Learn how to design, install and maintain your own small (under 600 Watts) off-grid solar electric system so it can provide you or a whole village with lighting, refrigeration, medical equipment and/or other loads that are needed all powered by the sun.
This project accepts virtual experteers.
