Organization Details
Terralima is building a digital commodity chain platform where we connect a trusted network of farmers in Africa to agri co-operatives who get high-quality, traceable agricultural commodities at a fair, transparent, and stable market price. Terralima also connects smallholder farmers to essential financial services such as insurance, loans and carbon finance.
Our platform is different in that we have a very strong embedded finance model that ensures that smallholder farmers can get access to adequate and fairly priced capital as well as tailor-made insurance products.
Impact Story
There are millions of smallholder farmers in Africa who produce the highest quality tea, coffee and macadamia nuts among other commodities that are finding it increasingly difficult to access global markets. This problem is compounded by climate shocks and their inability to access credit to allow them to increase production. Terralima is a Digital Commodity Chain platform that connects a trusted network of Smallholder Farmers and Cooperatives in Africa to Global Markets
We have made great strides in our journey so far, having closed a partnership with KENAFF - the largest farmer organisation in Kenya which gives us access to a membership base of more than 500 Coops with a reach of 1.2m farmers. We have also successfully run a proof-of-concept platform with 3 partners with a reach of 15,000 smallholder farmers.
