EcoLogic Development Fund

Organization Details
EcoLogic Development Fund (EcoLogic) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering rural and Indigenous communities in Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras to restore and protect vital tropical ecosystems. With three decades of experience in the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, we take a community-driven approach, equipping local people with the tools, training, incentives, and networks they need to lead conservation efforts and build long-term environmental resilience.
Our integrated programs support communities in achieving their conservation priorities while balancing ecological sustainability with human well-being. These initiatives include Community-Led Forest Conservation and Restoration, Sustainable Agriculture, Healthy Homes (such as fuel-efficient stoves and home gardens), Financial Incentives for Forest and Biodiversity Conservation, and Environmental Education. Additionally, we work to strengthen local technical capacity to address conservation challenges effectively.
Impact Story
EcoLogic Development Fund exists to address the urgent need for environmental conservation that directly supports the well-being of rural and Indigenous communities in Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. These communities depend on forests, rivers, and biodiversity for their livelihoods, yet they face increasing threats from deforestation, climate change, and unsustainable land use. Traditional top-down conservation models often overlook the essential role of local people as stewards of their ecosystems. We believe that conservation is most effective when it is community-led, ensuring that both people and nature thrive together.
Our organization's success is underscored by three decades of deep community engagement and measurable conservation impact. We have worked with 1,286 Indigenous communities, empowering 38,176 individuals through hands-on training initiatives. This collaboration has led to the reforestation and regeneration of 4,186 hectares of forests and jungles, marked by the planting of 5,749,582 trees. Additionally, we have established 639 hectares of agroforestry plots, nurturing 357,741 trees to support sustainable agriculture and food security. Central to our mission is the protection of 408,839 hectares of forest, ensuring the preservation of biodiversity and vital ecosystem services. To further incentivize conservation efforts, we have facilitated access to $1.4 million in financial incentives for local conservation projects.
