Organization Details

Samaking is revolutionizing Africa’s fish value chain by sustainably sourcing, processing, and distributing high-quality fish to meet growing consumer demand while improving livelihoods for fish farmers and fisherfolk. We address critical challenges like post-harvest losses, inefficient supply chains, and limited market access by integrating technology and organizing the value chain from the farm gate to the consumer. Our operations span upstream aggregation, quality control, and franchised retail distribution, providing consistent supply, fairer prices, and traceability for both local and export markets. Committed to sustainability, Samaking ensures environmental responsibility, economic empowerment, and social impact across the fish value chain.

Impact Story

Samaking exists to transform Africa’s fish value chain into a sustainable, equitable, and efficient system that benefits all stakeholders, from fish farmers and fisherfolk to end consumers. Growing up on the shores of Lake Victoria, we witnessed how fish served as both a staple food and a critical economic driver for local communities. However, inefficiencies, post-harvest losses of up to 40%, and limited market access have left many farmers and fisherfolk struggling to earn a sustainable income. With Africa’s growing demand for high-quality protein, the potential of fish remains untapped due to fragmented supply chains and inadequate infrastructure. Samaking is driven by a mission to address these challenges by creating a system where fish farming and fishing can thrive, benefiting both the environment and local communities.

Our impact is measurable and multifaceted. By establishing upstream sourcing from the farm gate and investing in cold chain logistics, we ensure quality and traceability, reducing losses and stabilizing incomes for farmers. Women fish traders and smallholder farmers, often marginalized in traditional systems, are empowered through fair pricing and access to reliable markets. Our franchise model creates additional opportunities for entrepreneurs while enhancing access to affordable, high-quality fish for consumers. In addition, Samaking’s operations promote environmental sustainability by advocating for responsible fishing practices and reducing waste in the supply chain. Through these efforts, we are not only improving livelihoods but also driving food security and building a resilient fish value chain in Africa.
