Organization Details
we do collect plastic waste from within and around kyaka ii refugee settlement in western uganda , kyegegwa district and we turn them into Eco friendly and sustainable recycled toilet slabs for refugee households.
Impact Story
we came to realise that refugee households are struggling with access to clean & hygienic toilet facilities where some of they resorted to practices such as open defecation, use of polythene bags which were then thrown into near by swarms hence endangering human life thus leading to outbreak of sicknesses such as diarroeha, cholera etc.
this prompted us into coming up with Safeplas as away to adress this challenges that the refugees are facing.
IMPACT.
we have been able to collect 8 tons of plastic waste within kyaka ii settlement and employed 20 refugees youths and single mothers in the collection process.
additionally, we are producing recycled toilet slabs where one piece of toilet slab weighs 15 kg from 100% recycled plastic waste.
further more, we are training single mothers on how to make liquid soap to enhance their income and sustainability.
