Organization Details

enjuba is a non-profit organization that improves literacy and executive function for Ugandan children through innovative early childhood programs, libraries, and spelling competitions. Our early childhood program provides access to high-quality pre-primary education, teacher training, and parental engagement. Our literacy program provides age and culturally-appropriate books and makes learning fun. We support community/school libraries with 1,000 books each and turn them into a hub for literacy activities such as spelling competitions and DEAR Day. Through these initiatives, enjuba aims to create a holistic learning environment that empowers children to reach their full potential and transform their communities for the better.

Impact Story

We have reached 2.1 million children in Uganda, trained 10,000+ teachers, and distributed 600,000 books to children. 90% of our participants have completed primary school joined secondary school and gained executive function skills to enable them to navigate this world. We have contributed to a reduction in the school dropout rate overall by 11%.

The children exhibit an increased love for reading, and improved confidence, communication, planning, and critical thinking skills. Our school and community libraries improved reading skills by 90%, 63% of children reported increased self-confidence, and 59% noted improved reading ability. The children in our early childhood program score above the national average in motor skills, emergent literacy and numeracy, cognitive development, and executive function based on the IDELA assessment.
