Organization Details

AppCyclers, founded in 2019 in Tamale, Northern Ghana, is a pioneering social enterprise specializing in e-waste management. We leverage web technology, data analysis, and community sensitization programs to ensure the safe disposal and management of e-waste. Our core activities include:- Organizing advocacy programs and projects to educate youth and informal local recyclers on best practices in e-waste management.- Offering collection services via a digital platform, where we manually dismantle e-waste and ethically recover precious materials. Our processing workshop enables us to collect, store, and process these materials, recovering various components for sale on our digital platform.

Impact Story

We do exist to solve the significant issue of electronic waste (e-waste) in Africa, where over 3.2 million metric ton is generated annually, but only a minimal 1% is properly collected and recycled due to insufficient recycling facilities and infrastructure. This dose not only leads to environmental pollution and health problems but also creates a material gap for the electronics industry, which struggles to obtain enough recyclable materials from e-waste. Local scrap dealers and formal recyclers, although potentially valuable contributors to the solution, face obstacles such as a lack of skills, broken value chain, technology, and financial resources, preventing them from meeting the industry's demand and seizing economic opportunities.
