How This Works

As part of the TRANSFORM Support Hub, you will learn how to advance your career while getting hands on experience with organizations like this one.

Organization Details

Clozetsales tackles the twin challenges of textile waste and plastic pollution in Africa, while promoting social inclusion and economic empowerment. We achieve this by:

  • Collecting unwanted clothing and plastic waste from individuals and businesses.
  • Segmenting and recycling clothing into high-quality insulation materials and other reusable components.
  • Transforming plastic waste (particularly PET bottles and small sachets) into valuable recycled materials.
  • Providing fair wages and decent working conditions for waste collectors, with a focus on promoting gender equality in the traditionally male-dominated sector.

Impact Story

...

Our positive impact comes in three ways:

  • Environmental: We divert unwanted clothing and plastic waste from landfills, preventing pollution and promoting a circular economy in fashion. By recycling textiles into insulation and other materials, we reduce the need for virgin resources. For plastic waste, we especially target PET bottles and small sachets, notorious pain points in African waste management.
  • Social: We empower waste collectors, especially women, by providing fair wages, decent working conditions, and opportunities for advancement within the recycling industry. This combats the traditionally male-dominated nature of waste collection and creates a more inclusive and equitable work environment.
  • Economic: We create a win-win situation. Businesses gain access to high-quality recycled materials, and consumers have a sustainable option for disposing of unwanted clothing. This fosters innovation in the fashion industry and promotes more responsible production and consumption practices.
