Women Environmental Programme

Organization Details
WEP was formed in 1997 by a group of grassroots women who came together to advocate for measures to be taken to address the pollution that was caused by the textile industries. It was formally registered as a non-governmental, non-political, and not-for-profit organization by the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria on 22nd October 2003. Although WEP emerged in response to the environmental pollution by industries in Kaduna State, over the years she has expanded her interventions to conflict transformation, climate change, and governance issues. The organization has expanded to different countries (Togo, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, and Niger) all headed by women. WEP envisions a world where the lives of women and youth are positively transformed with the mission of ensuring the rights of women and youth through sustainable environmental, socio-political and economic development. WEP’s work hinged on four pillars; Environment, Climate Change, Governance, Peace and Security.
