Organization Details

Rays of Hope Support Initiative ROHSI is an organisation that works to raise advocacy, awareness, and understanding of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which are chronic diseases that are not contagious. NCDs are the leading cause of death worldwide, and they are responsible for 74% of all deaths. We work to promote prevention, early detection, and treatment of NCDs, with an emphasis on hypertension and diabetes, in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

Impact Story

The Rays of Hope Support Initiative (ROHSI) was co-founded in 2017 by Benjamin Olorunfemi, a survivor of hypertension. Olorunfemi was inspired to start ROHSI after he realised that many people in his community were unaware of the risk factors and symptoms of hypertension and diabetes and that many people who were diagnosed with these diseases did not have access to affordable treatment.

ROHSI has made a significant impact on the lives of people with hypertension and diabetes in Ibadan, Nigeria. The organisation has:

  • Conducted over 8 community health outreach programmes in Ibadan and its environment, reaching over 4000 Nigerians with free blood pressure and sugar screening, medical advice, and free medications.
  • Provided educational materials and collaborated on NCDs and lifestyle changes for the prevention and management of NCDs among the people.
  • Advocated for better healthcare policies for people with NCDs in Nigeria.

ROHSI's work has helped to:

  • Raise awareness about hypertension and diabetes in the community.
  • Identify and diagnose people with hypertension and diabetes who were previously unaware of their condition.
  • Provide free screening and treatment to patients who would otherwise be unable to afford it.
  • Advocate for better healthcare policies for people with NCDs in Nigeria.

ROHSI is a leading example of how non-profit organisations can play a vital role in improving healthcare for people with NCDs in low- and middle-income countries. The organisation's work has made a real difference in the lives of thousands of people in Ibadan, Nigeria.
