Organization Details

“Period” helps women & AFAB (assigned female at birth) individuals treat their menstrual and premenstrual disorders with holistic and integrative menstrual health education via online courses, offline and online workshops, and speaking events. We empower menstruators to heal their conventionally incurable disorders and regain bodily integrity to create gender equity.

Impact Story

From receiving a medical diagnosis in 2017 of Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), in my own health journey, I had limited educational resources, zero treatments available to specifically treat this cyclical, hormonal mood disorder, and no support in battling this debilitating chronic medical condition. Through my own personal health challenges, I wanted to create more awareness, more education, and more advocacy around premenstrual mental health, and thus, "period" was born.

Premenstrual and menstrual health is a widespread and life-threatening issue. 90% of menstruating females suffer from PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome). Premenstrual and menstrual disorders impact up to 70% of menstruators, greatly decreasing their quality of life due to relationship impacts, inability to maintain jobs, and more.

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, or PMDD, impacts an estimated 6 million individuals worldwide, or 1 in 20 menstruators. However, in reality, this number is much higher, as it takes an average of 12 years to be diagnosed. Of those who have been diagnosed with PMDD, 34% have attempted suicide due to the mental health impacts of this cyclical, hormonal mood disorder.

Endometriosis impacts 10% of menstruators, while 12% are impacted by Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS. For females that have been diagnosed with a disorder like Generalized Anxiety Disorder, 60% suffer from Premenstrual Exacerbation, or PME.

Birth control is one of the only conventional treatments for these medical conditions and is already used by approx. 65% of menstruators, we can deduce that this band-aid solution is only treating the symptoms, and not the problem itself. We deserve effective, science-based solutions that treat the entire individual, on the mental, emotional and spiritual level, and that's where "period" comes in.

At "period", we have reached over 2500+ individuals across the globe giving them hope, and transformational knowledge that redefines their experience in healthcare.
