PinkDrive NPC
Organization Details
PinkDrive NPC founded in 2009 by Noelene Kotschan on the premise that “Early detection will help to prolong a life.” PinkDrive’s purpose is to prevent as many people as possible, from succumbing to breast, cervical, prostate and testicular cancer. PinkDrive, with the pink trucks equipped with mobile mammography units, gynaecology ultrasound and PSA tests, travel to the remotest rural areas to meet the needs of the medically uninsured. PinkDrive receives no government funding whatsoever. It is ostensibly a promoter of health awareness in general, and specifically health education and heightening awareness of gender-related cancers in South Africa.
Impact Story
Our delivery model has inspired us to advocate a move away from fixed-structure clinic
services to mobile health services at the primary healthcare level.
Reach and presence are the cornerstones of our success. We are determined to reveal
that all citizens can be reached and touched through constant cycles of visits to farflung
areas at venues which beneficiaries readily identify. The social and cultural
connections which are a normal part of the beneficiary’s everyday environment will be
exploited. PinkDrive resolves to transcend challenges by refraining from the utilisation of
technical jargon and traditionally staid approaches to health.
The distribution of citizens is wide in our vast country. This is compounded by prevailing
poverty and declining personal health. Despite this, we believe that basic health
awareness and practical education can be delivered in unusual and creative ways. We
are convinced that our approach would make largely unpalatable, uncomfortable and
potentially fearful experiences, more acceptable to our beneficiaries.
Humility, empathy and respect of the choices of our beneficiaries, which is a universal
human right transcending all social boundaries, will ensure that we gain their full
confidence enabling us to return to their aid.
A future strategic objective, when funding becomes available, is to establish a
presence in other African countries.
