AheriNet is a social enterprise that operates a community wireless internet services with an objective to provide reliable, low cost and affordable internet connectivity to Micro and Small Enterprises and citizens within the informal settlements in Kisumu as well as neighboring counties that are classified as rural areas.
Impact Story
Kenya faces a significant digital divide, with 44% of the urban population having access to the internet compared to 17% in rural areas. In addition, widespread gaps in basic digital skills still limit wider usage and application of digital tools, and services while gaps in advanced digital skills limit business development.
AheriNet is currently operating 3 solar powered hotspots in the densely populated informal settlemets in kisumu that services 300 - 500 individuals daily. We are providing afordable and reliable internet services to the underserved population where eletricity is eractic or not available and formal internet cost are out of reach for the population.
Our Hotspot services has enabled Micro and Small businesses in the informal settle to join the digital economic platform which has led to increase market reach and sales.
We have also connected 38 rural schools to internet which has provided digital access to 34,280 students and teachers in the schools.
