Organization Details

Nilus develops technology to lower the cost of living for low-income people, leveraging the power of disintermediation, food rescue and community group buying.

Impact Story

Being poor is more expensive: from food products to household appliances including medicines and veterinary services, all categories have prices, on average, 25% more expensive in vulnerable neighborhoods than in middle-income neighborhoods (many products are not even available). This is explained by the number of intermediaries, the lack of access to credit in neighborhood businesses, the logistical difficulties and insecurity that the locations present, and because many companies have not yet seen the great market opportunity that they hide.

Nilus is a technology company incubated at the Harvard Innovation Lab with a mission to reduce the costs of poverty. It has operations in Argentina and Mexico, where it has already distributed more than 5.3 million kilos of essential products, and plans to end 2022 with recurring annual revenues of USD 2.8 million. Nilus's vision is to be the first market solution to eradicate poverty that achieves being a unicorn.
