EAU ET VIE CORE IDEA : SLUM DWELLERS TOO, DESERVE AND CAN AFFORD SUSTAINABLE TAP WATER IN THEIR HOMES.

Ensure permanent access to a reliable domestic water service, fire-fighting, hygiene training, community empowerment and emergency plans, as well as developing other essential communitybased services according to the people’s needs and capacities.

Carry out systemic diagnostics on waste management and sanitation. Develop initiatives according to the context and the resources available, preferably with the support of communities and local authorities

Mobilise and involve all partners for the implementation of projects with a high social impact, which are over time economically viable and self-sufficient.

Impact Story

Water : A water network allows quality water supply at home in sufficient quantity and in a legal manner • The inhabitants have a sustainable access to a water service suitable to the social economic context of the urban poor communities

Hygiene : Promote improved hygienic conditions for the inhabitants and a clean environment in urban poor areas of intervention • Hygiene kits are distributed • Handwashing stations are deployed

Fire fighting :Strengthen the capacities of the community in the intervention areas in order to respond to fire risks and emergency situations • Rescue brigades are trained, equipped and mobilised to respond effectively in case of emergency

Clean Env. : The Communities are informed of the risks and challenges related to solid waste and sanitation and know how to better manage it • Solutions responding to solid waste management and sanitation issues are codeveloped following a systematic diagnosis and implemented according to possibilities

Com. Empowerment : Improve the organization of the communities in the intervention areas inclusive of all the groups and sectors that compose them

Pilots projects & Innovation : An evaluation study on the sanitation and solid waste management services is made for each area • A geolocation system is integrated to the management software for all areas • The social marketing follow-up is integrated in the management software
