MindTerra
Organization Details
MindTerra is an early-stage social enterprise; we are a global community and platform using expressive writing as a tool to care for mental health and well-being for women of color. Our vision is to see a world in which every woman feels included, heard, and empowered and has the means to take care of their own well-being. Built on evidence-based research and reviewed by our own clinical therapist advisor, we have created two two flagship online programs - Writing Veranda and Wellness Writing - in which participants are guided through mindfulness and writing exercises for self-reflection and introspection. Our previous partnerships include creating and running a 450-person online workshop for mental well-being.
Impact Story
Mental health blankets our society in a stifling heat that everyone feels, yet no one sees. It is never easy to tell that someone is mentally suffering by looking at them because all of that hurt happens from within. To keep up with the hustle and bustle of daily life, we shove our mental health down the list of priorities, and keep quiet even when we’re in pain. In recent years, mental health as a social problem has gained more attention and discussion. Yet one aspect continues to suffer under the invisible blanket: women’s empowerment. The expectations set in place for women silence their voices. Women continue to feel afraid of being selfish; of coming out with their stories, prioritizing their own health, and admitting that they are not okay. How can we solve the problem of mental health if women do not feel empowered to share and overcome their pain?
This is the problem MindTerra seeks to solve. We are coming together to empower women, give them a voice, and make them feel heard. In our space, women are encouraged to come as they are. We share our stories with a vulnerability that our society doesn’t allow us. We listen to and validate our pain. We inspire and strengthen each other. Empowering women to be their best, mentally healthy selves doesn’t just help women; it helps everyone. Through our wellness programs, we hope to help lift the invisible blanket trapping our society, and make the world a better and safer place.
