Victoria Relief Foundation
Organization Details
VRF is a not for profit organisation set up to assist victims of the conflict in Southern Cameroons.
Impact Story
We exist to provide assistance to these categories of Refufees:
Refugees - the conflict has led to an estimated 100,000 refugees. These refugees are mostly in neighbouring countries, Cameroun and Nigeria. But there are also many in Ghana, South Africa, the United States, Canada and South America with a particularly large concentration at the Mexican border waiting to enter the United States.
- IDPs - as a result of the conflict, an estimated 2 million people have been displaced. Most are living in bushes. Others have migrated to makeshift camps in the major urban centres in Buea, Bamenda, Kumba, Mamfe, Limbe, Kumbo and Nkambe. Still many others are living in communities within these towns and the surburbs.
- Prisoners of Conscience
There are an estimated 3000 people arrested and detained in the context of the conflict in Southern Cameroons. Detainees are held in deplorable conditions in squalid cells in overcrowded jails with hardened criminals and actual terrorists from the Islamic sect, boko haram. An estimated 1100 detainees have been tracked and documemented in facilities in Yaounde, Douala, Buea, Bamenda, Edea, Bafoussam and Ebolowa. Many others are held in secret detention facilities, police stations, gendarmarie brigades, military barracks, judicial police, special branch, and other agencies with dubious connotations.
With no help coming in from any external International NGOs, we exist to provide help to these vulnerable people.
