Organization Details

We have 10 years proven experience that our support of local, women-led projects on the ground, work. We believe in the power of local solutions to local problems, led by those with lived experience. The Fund for Congolese Women (FFC) is a non-governmental organization with the mission of supporting the promotion and defense of the rights of women / girls, especially the right to live without violence. Our financial and technical support is aimed at strengthening the organizational capacities, organizations, networks and groups of Congolese women / girls.

Impact Story

Here is what we know: in the DRC, women and girls face multiple vulnerabilities due to general insecurity, prevalence of sexual and domestic violence, high rates of poverty, and limited availability of resources and don’t have access to services. Women are disproportionally affected by these challenges due to inequality, and social, cultural, and political marginalization. FFC has seen the impact of grassroots organizations in effectively promoting women’s rights. However, these local initiatives faced many challenges in accessing funding.

FFC intervenes in the following areas:

- Women's Leadership, Women's Political Participation and Civic Education

- Peace Negotiation

- Fight against sexual and gender-based violence

- Fight against HIV / AIDS and the promotion of sexual and reproductive health

- Empowerment of women and women's literacy

- Environmental protection and climate justice

In 2018 alone, we provided 60 grants to women-led projects in the 6 areas mentioned above. These grants focused on the fight against sexual violence in schools, the strengthening of women's capacities on electoral observation, the mediation of electoral conflicts, community sensitization on civic education, the establishment of mining cooperatives.

Over the last 10 years, FFC has supported 386 projects from more than 130 grassroots women's organizations. During this time, as part of our mission to build a strong women's movement in the DRC, to build the capacity of hundreds of women in various fields and particularly 284 women politicians on electoral issues and communication techniques, project cycle management of the women's organizations we support.
