We created the first of its kind, comprehensive educational pregnancy app from the African continent. Each user can personalize the app for themselves and make use of any of the 30 app features to track their own pregnancy from week to week. My Pregnancy Journey app updates new content, videos and information each week guiding the expectant mom right through her whole pregnancy journey. Our app content focuses on the unique challenges that our local women and girls face during pregnancy and beyond, we also link our local women and girls to local help organizations, services, providers, support and products, we created a whole digital echo-system.
Impact Story
Already being in the pregnancy industry is how we came across the shocking statistics when it comes to pregnancies in Africa, with the African continent having some of the highest when it comes to adolescent pregnancies, HIV infections and birth deaths, with many African countries having one out of 4 pregnancy related fatality. There are a couple of things that contribute to this like socio-economic conditions, poort healthcare services and due the the lack of educational information and support being available and easily accesable. On further research we discovered that the only local solutions are SMS, WhatsApp or web-based solutions, OR are internationally based pregnancy apps that are not focused on Africa, or any other developing country in the world. Everyone uses the internationally base pregnancy apps since those are the only decent apps available and they basically dominate the global market, they also don't link our local women and girls to local services and providers.
Africa's yearly birth rate (46 mill) is already more than a quarter of the global yearly birth rate (140 mill). We see a massive gap to expand into other African countries, making some of the app features country specific, translating and linking them to their local services, organizations, providers and products.
