Description and Impact

The project is all about resurrecting well beings of children with special needs from secluded communities in Bodhgaya region of northern India. Bodhi Tree Special school brings attitudinal and behavioural changes across communities in term of approaches and practices. The school has enrolled about 50 children with special needs and employes special Educators, psychologist, and clinicians to meet their needs. It also ensures nutritional security of these children apart from therapies and a matrix of interventions.

The project is equally concerned about the children and teens with special needs in both genders, and aims to impart a better psychological understanding for the parents as well to better understand the challenges their children are experiencing. There is a knowledge gap for parents because in the rural communities the understanding of mental illness is based in superstition and stereotypes. That's why it is imperative that the school also educates the parents and show them that through training and therapies these children may be included in mainstream communities of children, rather than being rejected and isolated. A videographer may impact our ability to fulfill this mission by helping us share the stories of these special children.

Deliverables

There are multiple results that are bound to be achieved by the end of project. In the long-term, this project will help us scale our impact by allowing for the rightful rehabilitation and harmonious inclusion of children and teens with mental health challenges in mainstream communities.

The project is sharing the work we do: therapies and training that are directed towards enabling these children in developing life skills, emotional literacy, behavior modifications, and social skills. Ultimately this will support us in inching closer to end the degree of discrimination in any form regarding these children and teens. The story we want to tell is one that critically examines the factors that are keeping them in destitution to co-create a community for them where their right To Smile is the most basic. We together may easily reach deep felt aspirations to anchored peace and prosperity for these humble souls with your help capturing the images and videos that share their story with the world!
