Project Description and Impact
Uthabiti Africa has been operating since 2019 as a social enterprise (Uthabiti Africa Advisory Services Limited). We have been funded by Echidna Giving, Conrad N. Hilton Foundation (CNHF) and Roddenbberry Foundation through the social enterprise. We have been providing a charitable status write-up to justify that our work has been charitable since the process of registering a charity organization (Foundation) in Kenya was taking longer than anticipated. The registration process for Uthabiti Africa Foundation was approved in March 2021 and registration certificate was issued. The Foundation has not received any funding; the funding so far received was contracted through the social enterprise. The audited financials and other funding contractual documents, therefore, have been issued in the name of the social enterprise for which the funding was received. We have operationalized the Foundation such that all new funding for charity work will be administered through the Foundation while the social enterprise exists for advisory services to support the organization for sustainability.
We would like to refine a strategy that places Advisory Services as the holding company of The Foundation among other initiatives in the pipeline.
