Social Impact Project for Communication Expert to Support Vulnerable Communities in Colombia

How This Works

As part of the TRANSFORM Support Hub, you will learn how to advance your career while getting hands on experience on projects like this one.

Project Description and Impact

We started last year an exciting program to improve access to healthy and affordable food and Early Childhood Development services in the vulnerable communities of Cali, Colombia. Our organization is currently operating a hybrid value chain completely integrated in the local economy. This means that most of its producers and providers are locally sourced. This is creating a significant impact on the local society through the creation of decent jobs and small businesses.

This project has been selected by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation last year as a scalable model to improve access to affordable and healthy food for the most vulnerable communities. Most recently we have entered into a Food Security and Nutrition Alliance, ColombiaAl2030, with local private sector partners and public health insurance companies.

Over the next 24-36 months we will be working on scaling up the Hybrid Value Chain. This is our 'pilot' with a 20 year history that will now be rolled out to different cities in the country.

Together with a wide variety of partners we are pooling together as we are looking for Professionals to support us during the first steps in this process. Here is an overview of the partners in the project.

As you can see there is a large group of actors involved. We prefer to refer to them as stakeholders. But because all of them have different levels of commitment to the project or simply have different expectations from the collaboration, we need to determine how to communicate with all of them.

We are looking for the right strategy through which we can deliver our storytelling.

The longterm goal for this project is to provide a financially self sustainable solution for the social sector that is evidenced based and delivers the requested impact. We believe that this project can tilt the scale towards a change in social policy agenda setting and government funding which is more based on 'pay-for-result' funding models.

Learning Opportunity

Of course this is a very personal question. And I can answer this from my own perspective.

As a professional from Europe I had to adjust a lot. The the local context of Colombia is in no ways similar to anything in Europe, or North America. If you are from Asia (ie. Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Japan) or Australia, NZ, the same applies. After making numerous mistakes, I am now at a stage where I can apply my skills and experience to our work in the local communities at at a level that is fun and challenging at the same time. There is a strong demand for people like you (us).

While a couple of us have paved the way, it will now be easier for you to spend your time productively and actually make a difference. Within the clearly structured scope of the projects you can enjoy autonomy in the way you structure your work. Your input is very valuable!

What you will take away from this experience is that you will be adding value in the most unexpected ways, as well as hands-on experience with a grassroots social enterprise.

Accommodation

If you choose to make use of a room at one of the Community Mothers, you will be staying in the authentic Cali.

Of course, in case you prefer more comfort there are lots of Air BNB's across Cali.

Food Stipend

You will enjoy a warm lunch during weekdays at our offices.

There is even a friendly neighbor that can make you a nice cup of coffee.

Additional Benefits

Cali has a lot to offer. Cali was recently named the Cultural Capital of South America.

That means tons of salsa, a bit of street art, mixed in with lots of different rhythms and styles.

You love Pacific food, this is the place.

Prefer to wander in the mountains on the weekends, Farallones are your spot.

Prefer watching birds. Close to Cali you find the world's highest density of bird species per km2.

If you want us to hook you up with the right people to experience Cali in a different way, we can help you out.
