Social Impact Project for Strategic Human Resources Expert to Support Sustainable Cities in Myanmar
Project Description and Impact
Our organization is a participatory design practice based in Yangon, Myanmar, dedicated to building better cities. In a world of rapid urbanisation, we want to make sure cities are places with identity, and that they are liveable, inclusive and sustainablae. That is why we are a social enterprise that specialises in preserving heritage, improving public space, and organising activities that connect people to places.
Due to our quick growth since early 2017 and big ambitions for the future, we are in search of strategic support around talent acquisition, human resource management, learning & development and staff retention. As strategic HR is an expertise that is largely non-existent in Myanmar, we are looking for an experteer to work directly with the Director, in collaboration with an HR officer (who supports us 2 days/week) and an HR and admin assistant (who supports us fulltime). The role's main responsibilities will be strategic, and will involve upskilling the local HR officer and assistant on implementation. More particularly the role will center around:
- Making sure our organization is a great place to work and staff are engaged
- Planning for the development and implementation of new HR initiatives and systems
- Proactively supporting us in attracting and retaining the best talent, both internationally and locally
- Leading our staff capacity development work
- Preparing the ground for and helping train a more long-term Head of Talent/Strategic HR post.
By participating in the MovingWorlds Institute, you will first learn social impact frameworks and human-centered design before putting your existing skills and new knowledge to action. In addition, this organization will expose you to new things, like:
This is an opportunity to work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, and innovative organisation and share in our vision to make Yangon Asia’s most livable urban place – environmentally, economically, socially and culturally. We will also be looking at other cities in Myanmar soon, and possibly across borders. We work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment with opportunities to work on a wide variety of projects and topic areas, both individually and on project teams.
We have an apartment for volunteers and consultants that work with us. The apartment is in the heart of downtown in a heritage building, surrounded by streets, tea stalls, religious buildings and overall lots of colour and life. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to our office. The apartment has two bedrooms and it may be that the apartment would be shared with another volunteer or consultant.
Working in a fast growing, locally and regionally celebrated social venture that is having a visible impact on Yangon and hopefully other cities in the region soon. Work for an organisation that is starting to receive a lot of interest from young designers locally and internationally as a place to work. Working with young local and international staff that are incredibly keen to learn and grow.
