Social Impact Project for Finance/Accounting to Empower Women in South Africa

How This Works

In the MovingWorlds Institute Global Fellowship, you will learn how to advance your for-good career while getting hands on experience on projects like this one.

Project Description and Impact

Our organization looks to solve two problems simultaneously - unemployment and skills shortage in the tourism industry. Our vision is to create an African Sisterhood of self-empowered, resourceful women and we do this by giving women the power to create their own future by joining our African learning journey to become independent and thrive!

We believe that with the right type of learning and support, we can upskill unemployed women to become sought after professionals in the tourism industry. Our unique, African, pedagogy, experiential learning and sisterhood supports and enables women to proactively ‘climb’ themselves up out of unemployment and into value adding professionals.

We are a start-up and have limited resources. We have recently introduced Xero as our accounting system, but are not using it to its full capacity. We need someone to help us identify our needs, implement the right systems and processes and train local staff on how to use these. We currently have no financial processes and so need these developed from scratch and automated where possible.

Simple, usable budgets and forecasts are to be created and maintenance plans implemented.

Much of our team has not had exposure to managing business finances before and this role could extend into basic financial management training for our staff (and even participants) if the candidate has such skills.
