Every grower producing for Good Nature receives a package of goods and services customized to deliver results for their farm and family’s financial goals. This includes a guaranteed contract, seed and any chemicals required and financing through the season, training through their innovative Private Extension Agent (PEA) model, and a premium price for quality when purchasing the output at harvest.
Impact Story
Good Nature’s market, model, and operations are all designed to generate lasting income with smallholder farmers, with a target of $600 of net grower income per hectare. Current impact is $382 per hectare - over 300% higher than baseline.
Since its founding in 2014, Good Nature Agro has challenged the status quo of how companies source from smallholders by investing more in almost 5,000 growers and 120 extension agents to increase productivity per hectare instead of investing less to cut unit costs. This has paid off with a nearly 220 percent increase in yield for farmers producing legume seed for Good Nature. Tangential benefits also come from this increase investment. Side-selling is slightly above 10 percent versus reported figures of 40-60 percent among outgrowers of a comparable scale.
