Omba Arts Trust
Organization Details
Omba Arts Trust is a nonprofit based in Namibia that promotes sustainable livelihoods for Indigenous and rural artisans through skills development, product innovation, and ethical trade. We provide artisan groups with practical training in design, and quality control, while coordinating logistics and market access both locally and internationally. Our organization supports around 600 artisans, primarily women, across remote areas of Namibia, including the San, Himba, and Kavango communities. By working at the intersection of traditional knowledge and contemporary enterprise, we ensure cultural heritage is not only preserved but economically valued.
Impact Story
Omba Arts Trust exists to create opportunities for Indigenous communities and artisans who have been historically undervalued or excluded from mainstream markets. Many of these artisans—especially women—live in isolated regions where economic opportunity is limited, and access to infrastructure is minimal. Through consistent purchases, on-site training, and creative collaboration, we enable them to earn a stable income while working from their home villages, using skills passed down through generations.
This work has tangible impact: women artisans now lead income generation in their households, young people are learning to value their heritage, and traditional designs are gaining international recognition. By championing community-led storytelling and ethical production, Omba builds both economic and cultural resilience. Whether it’s a wild silk, ostrich eggshell jewellery, artworks, or a hand-woven basket, every piece we help bring to market carries a story of dignity, skill, and survival. Our impact is not only in the products we support—but in the lives they sustain and the traditions they protect.
