Red Dot Foundation Global
Organization Details
Red Dot Foundation is making the world a safer place for all, especially women & girls by preventing gender-based violence through data-backed, collective action from individuals, communities, and institutions.
Impact Story
Red Dot Foundation was created to address the deep silence around sexual and gender-based violence in public and private spaces. We are registered as a Section 8 not-for-profit company in India and as a 501(c)(3) in the USA under Red Dot Foundation Global. We are accredited with special consultative status with the United Nations ECOSOC. Our flagship initiative, Safecity, crowdsources anonymous stories of sexual harassment and abuse and aggregates them into hotspots on a map to identify trends and catalyze solutions. Since its launch on 26 December 2012, we’ve collected over 50,000 stories from around the world and directly reached more than one million people through training, outreach, and advocacy.
Our mission is to make cities safer by promoting equal access to public and private spaces for all, especially women and girls, using data, community engagement, and institutional accountability. We partner with police, city governments, and civil society across India—particularly in Haryana, Goa, and Maharashtra—and in 20 other countries. Our approach builds trust between communities and authorities and strengthens city systems from the ground up. We believe that every incident matters: UN Women estimates that 1 in 3 women face sexual violence, but in India, where a rape occurs every 20 minutes, most incidents go unreported due to fear, shame, and systemic barriers. Safecity empowers individuals to break the silence, helping institutions respond to the actual scale of the problem. In doing so, we shift safety from reaction to prevention and co-create lasting peace in our cities.
