Association la Voûte Nubienne

Organization Details
The objective of the Nubian Vault Association is to develop a bioclimatic housing market in West Africa, allowing vulnerable populations to access affordable, comfortable housing well adapted to climate change
Impact Story
Climate change disproportionately affects vulnerable communities in the Sahel, despite their minimal contribution to it. Extreme temperatures and inadequate tin roofs make homes unbearably hot and unsafe, often being torn off by strong winds. With rapid population growth, construction demands will surge, increasing the use of materials like cement, steel, and timber, further damaging ecosystems and escalating greenhouse gas emissions. Rising temperatures will also drive up energy consumption to cool homes, exacerbating CO₂ emissions and worsening climate impacts on both people and the environment.
The Nubian Vault programme offers a scalable, sustainable solution by promoting eco-friendly construction techniques suited for the Sahel. By replacing high-impact building materials with bioclimatic architecture, the project reduces the environmental footprint of the construction sector while improving living conditions. This initiative fosters economic empowerment, cultural resilience, and climate adaptation, creating a transformative shift toward sustainable development. With its potential for large-scale adoption, the programme not only enhances local well-being but also contributes to global environmental and social sustainability goals.
