Organization Details

Wonderland Child & Family Services (Wonderland) is a nonprofit agency serving children with developmental delays, disabilities, and prenatal substance exposure. Founded in 1969, Wonderland is dedicated to helping children meet healthy developmental milestones and provides a strong and equitable foundation for children and their families with diverse needs and abilities to flourish through therapy, education, advocacy, and resources.

Impact Story

Wonderland’s services can be divided into two programs. The Early Support for Infants and Toddlers program serves children birth to age three with a range of disabilities and a variety of diagnoses, including autism, Fragile X, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, fetal alcohol syndrome, prenatal substance exposure, and general developmental delays. Hope RISING Clinic, founded in 2019, serves ages birth to 13 and focuses exclusively on providing support and therapy to children with prenatal exposure to drugs and alcohol and their families. In 2024, Wonderland served a total of 1156 pediatric clients.

Hope RISING Clinic is a pioneer in the field of supporting children and families dealing with the impact of prenatal substance exposure (PSE). Exposure to substances prenatally can cause significant harm to the developing brain. This harm contributes to developmental delays and severe behavioral challenges once the baby is born. Over the long-term, if untreated, PSE contributes to higher rates of dropping out of school, substance use disorders, poverty, and homelessness. According to national statistics for children prenatally exposed to alcohol alone, 70% are suspended, expelled, or drop out of school; 90% struggle with mental disorders; and 60% become involved with the justice system. PSE also disproportionally impacts children in the foster care system. Over 80% of children with FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) are removed from the care of their biological parents. Early intervention, like that provided at Hope RISING Clinic, is key to avoiding these negative outcomes.
