Deesha Education Foundation
Organization Details
The Deesha Education Foundation works to eradicate corneal blindness and provide equitable eye care. Inspired by a personal tragedy, we promote eye donation, establish eye banks, and deliver quality services to underserved areas. Since opening our first eye bank in Amravati in 2013, we’ve expanded across Maharashtra, restoring sight to over 12,700 patients through corneal transplants and educating 600,000 people about eye and organ donation.
Our mobile eye care units have reached remote regions, screening 300,000 individuals. Innovating for impact, we’ve developed a digital portal for transparent corneal tissue distribution and integrated AI to enhance transplant outcomes. Deesha envisions a future free from preventable blindness, empowering communities with the gift of sight through awareness, technology, and infrastructure development.
Impact Story
The Deesha Education Foundation exists to address the critical challenge of corneal blindness, a condition that affects millions but is entirely curable through timely corneal transplants. Our mission is deeply rooted in a personal tragedy—the loss of a childhood friend due to corneal blindness. This profound experience inspired our commitment to ensuring no one else suffers from avoidable blindness due to a lack of awareness, infrastructure, or resources.
Our positive impact lies in creating awareness, enabling eye donation, and delivering equitable eye care services, especially to underserved communities. Since establishing our first eye bank in Amravati, Maharashtra, we have expanded to several districts, transforming lives through over 12,700 successful corneal transplants. We have reached over 300,000 individuals through mobile eye care units, providing essential screenings and services in remote areas.
Deesha has sensitized 600,000 people on the importance of eye and organ donation, fostering a culture of giving and creating a ripple effect of awareness. Our digital portal for eye banking ensures a transparent and fair distribution of donated corneal tissues, addressing systemic inefficiencies. By integrating AI, we are revolutionizing transplant outcomes, reducing rejection rates, and empowering surgeons with predictive insights for better patient care.
We are not just restoring sight; we are restoring independence, dignity, and opportunities for individuals. From children regaining the ability to pursue education to adults re-entering the workforce, our work has far-reaching socio-economic implications. Deesha is more than an organization—it is a movement for a brighter, clearer future where everyone has the gift of sight.
