Global Vision 2020 has developed a system that enables Community Health Workers, and other networks the ability to deliver custom prescription eyeglasses for both near and far sightedness with only 1 hour of training. This system has been used to deliver over 350,000 pairs of new eyeglasses in 67 countries to date.
Impact Story
Poor vision due to refractive error (the need for eyeglasses) is the largest unmet disability in the world, and directly effects over 2.5 billion people. On a broader scale, approximatly 65% of the global population (over 5 billioin people) have no access to eyeglasses. Our system provides any organization the skills necessary to ddiscover if a peron has poor vision, determine what their prescription is, and then provide them a brand new, custom pair of eyeglasses anywhere in the world.
As a lifelong wearer of eyeglasses, I would not have been able to live a "normal" product life without the aid of glasses. It is unbelievable that this 700 year old device is denied to 5 billion people because of where they live, and how expensive the existing infrastructure makes this simple product.
