Impact Story

27.6 million people are living in modern slavery today. In the United States, 500,000 individuals are trafficked each year. Though each survivor’s story is unique, survivors share the impacts of trauma, face exclusion from pathways to financial freedom, and are often caught in a loop of searching for help followed by re-exploitation. AnnieCannons offers a free, trauma-informed training program that brings survivors of trafficking into STEM fields and links them to high-paying, highly skilled careers. By equipping survivors with technology experience and engineering skills, AnnieCannons is disrupting the cycle of vulnerability and elevating access to opportunities that survivors need to sustain freedom. 

We design opportunities for students to build their portfolios and get on-the-job experience without having to confront many of the structural barriers to entrance at technology companies. Within our organization, our graduate developers have worked on over 100 software projects, and earned over $2 million in income building software. Graduates of our recent cohorts are receiving engineering job offers at major companies and bringing new voices - and lived experiences - into companies across different industries.
