Organization Details

Kenya Connect has big dreams and we’re working to make them come true! Our vision is an empowered rural community that harnesses the benefits of education to drive sustainable development. With the mission of engaging and empowering students and teachers in rural Kenya to succeed in the 21st century we believe we can achieve our vision. We partner with 63 government schools to provide enrichment and empowerment programs including literacy, digital literacy, teacher professional development, income generation and sexual health and violence prevention programs while also breaking down barriers to education through providing clean water, handwashing stations, deworming, clean sanitation and reusable sanitary pads.

Impact Story

Originally established as a Pen Pal program to connect children in distant cultures, Kenya Connect has developed into an organization whose goal is to enhance education in rural Kenya. Our multipronged approach includes providing a wide-range of programs that support education and health initiatives.

According to a 2019 World Bank Report, the rural population makes up 72% of Kenya’s total population, yet the rural students lack the educational resources that their urban peers enjoy. Our goal is to provide opportunities, education, and training to help them achieve academically. As a result of our initiatives, literacy is improving since children have access to books through our mobile school library days and from our new library. They also participate in a wide range of afterschool enrichment programs including LitClubs, the Reading Challenge and Expanding Horizons. Simultaneously, our tech team is bringing computers into the classroom to teach basic digital skills and coding while also providing robotics clubs and school break computer programs. Since school fees provide a barrier to education, we are now working with parents, especially mothers, on income generating projects including sewing, growing Moringa trees and harvesting honey.
