Organization Details

At Youth STEM 2030, we're a social enterprise on a mission to empower youth globally to use science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), to tackle the world's biggest challenges: the UN Sustainable Development Goals. By creating an ecosystem of the opportunities, support and platforms youth need to become changemakers in STEM, we're empowering youth, creating a more diverse and socially-aware STEM sector, and tackling global challenges like climate change, poverty and inequalities.

Impact Story

We currently face significant global challenges; the climate emergency, COVID-19 pandemic, systemic inequalities, poverty, and more.  In 2015, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were agreed upon by world leaders - these 17 goals, which form part of ‘Agenda 2030’, are a blueprint for a better world.

From powering our planet with renewable energy, to providing treatments and cures to diseases, science, technology, engineering & maths (STEM) will provide many of the solutions we need to achieve the SDGs.  Yet, the UK STEM sector currently faces a shortage of skilled STEM workers, estimated to be a shortfall of 173,000 at a cost of £1.5bn per year to the UK economy.  And within the STEM sector, significant inequalities persist, with women, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people, people of colour and people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds all examples of groups currently underrepresented and facing barriers to pursuing careers in STEM.

While the solutions to our biggest challenges can come from anyone, anywhere, access to STEM education remains unequal and few youth have the opportunities to apply what they’ve learned and use STEM to make a difference.  The youth changemakers around the world that we work with every day demonstrate that young people can be at the forefront of tackling the world’s biggest challenges. But many youth lack the opportunities, skills, tools or networks that are often key to making a difference.

By creating an ecosystem of the opportunities, support and platforms youth need to become changemakers in STEM, Youth STEM 2030 is empowering youth, creating a more diverse and socially-aware STEM sector, and tackling global challenges like climate change, poverty and inequalities.
