Slam Out Loud

Organization Details
Slam Out Loud is a for-mission, non-profit that uses art forms like poetry, theatre, storytelling, and visual arts to build the 21st Century skills of Creative Confidence, in disadvantaged children aged 10-17 years, enabling them to achieve greater life outcomes.
We place professional artists to teach in classrooms for a 5-year program and use our learning to create scalable, vernacular e-learning products that teachers, students, and communities can use for art-based skill education.
Impact Story
Why we exist
Children from disadvantaged backgrounds face a lack of engaging opportunities to build creative confidence and are thereby disempowered to harness their voices to break the cycle of negative outcomes. A combination of childhood circumstances (such as poverty, poor mental and physical health), ecosystem challenges (such as globalization and conflict) and the fact that our education system does not cater to the requirements of current opportunities further perpetuates this cycle.
The power of the arts in building these relevant skills for productive lives has been validated by global research, yet in India the deprioritization of the arts shows in 130 million disadvantaged children receiving less than 20 hrs of art education yearly.
Impact
Slam Out Loud uses the transformative power of performance and visual arts to help children aged 10-17 from disadvantaged communities find their voice. We work with professional artists and e-learning resources to help children build Creative Confidence (a combination of 6 21st Century Skills and Socioemotional Skills including SEE4C (Self Esteem, Empathy, Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration and Creativity)
Our Programs includeThe Jijivisha Fellowship, an innovation lab where we work with professional artists who are placed directly in classrooms. In a 5 year relay model, each artist works with 30 students for a period of 1 year. It gives students 108+ hours of arts-based learning per year. So far, we have brought Jijivisha to 100 artists and 6500 children across India. The program enables us to create assets and public goods. We scale them through Voice For All.
Voice For All brings together e-learning and community platforms. Children create and share original artwork upon completion of tech-based courses that are interactive, vernacular, free of cost, and adaptable to context. With Pratham as implementation partmer, we reach out to 50,000 children across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra
